Meet Blue

Young Adult Goldendoodle Available in Oregon

Blue is a 1.5-year-old spayed female Goldendoodle looking for a very specific home where she can thrive.

She is intelligent, affectionate, playful, and exceptionally well-mannered in the home. Blue is not being rehomed because she is a "bad dog." In fact, many of the qualities that make her challenging in the wrong environment make her an exceptional companion in the right one.

Our goal is not simply to find Blue a home.

Our goal is to find her the right home.

Why Consider an Adult Dog?

Adult dogs offer advantages that puppies simply cannot.

Blue is already past the puppy stage. Her size, personality, strengths, and challenges are known. She is fully potty trained, crate trained, and has excellent house manners.

For the right family, Blue offers the opportunity to welcome a well-trained companion into their home without navigating puppy biting, house training, adolescence, and the many unknowns that come with raising a young puppy.

The Dog We Live With Every Day

The easiest way to describe Blue is that she is a wonderful house dog.

She is:

  • Fully potty trained

  • Crate trained

  • Non-destructive

  • Easy to live with indoors

  • Affectionate with her people

  • Playful and engaging

  • Able to settle and relax in the home

  • Capable of entertaining herself without constant attention

Blue enjoys being near her people but is not a dog that demands attention every minute of the day. She has a nice balance between companionship and independence.

She is the type of dog who can enjoy a training session, a game, a walk, and then spend the afternoon relaxing nearby.

Training and Obedience

Blue comes with a strong training foundation thanks to the significant time and effort invested by her previous family.

She knows many cues including:

  • Sit

  • Down

  • Wait

  • Heel

  • Side

  • Touch

  • Leave It

  • Place

  • Come

  • Off

  • Out

  • Spin

  • Through

  • Tuck

  • Crawl

  • Find It

She enjoys learning and genuinely likes working with her person.

One of the things we appreciated most about Blue's previous family was the amount of training and enrichment they had already provided. That investment is obvious when working with her.

A Thoughtful, Intelligent Dog

Blue is not a chaotic dog.

She is thoughtful.

She observes before she acts and often spends time processing her environment before making decisions.

She is highly scent-oriented and genuinely enjoys using her nose. Scent games, food puzzles, problem-solving activities, and training sessions are all things she tends to enjoy.

While scent work is not a requirement for her future home, it is certainly something she seems naturally drawn toward.

Dog Reactivity

Blue is fear-based reactive toward unfamiliar dogs.

She should be considered an only-dog placement, not because she is incapable of living with another dog, but because we believe that is the environment where she is most likely to be successful.

Blue does not enjoy being expected to socialize with unfamiliar dogs. Dog parks, dog daycare, neighborhood dog greetings, and homes looking for a social dog are not a good fit for her.

Over the course of her evaluation, Blue has shown that she can coexist with certain dogs under the right circumstances. She has also had positive interactions with young puppies and appeared to genuinely enjoy their company.

However, our recommendation remains that Blue be placed as an only dog where she can focus on her relationship with her people rather than navigating canine social expectations.

Why We Are Seeking an Adult-Only Home

Blue has a history of several incidents involving young children.

Based on the information available, many of those incidents involved physical displacement, close physical interaction, unexpected contact, or situations where Blue appeared uncomfortable with physical pressure or intrusion into her space.

While the exact motivation behind every interaction cannot be determined retrospectively, Blue has demonstrated a lower tolerance for certain forms of physical handling than we would like to see in a family dog living with young children.

What makes Blue somewhat unique is that she does not appear to dislike children. In fact, she has often sought out interaction with children and chosen to be near family activity.

However, enjoying the presence of children and being a safe fit for a home with children are not necessarily the same thing.

Because of her history, we believe the most responsible placement is an adult-only home where she does not need to navigate the unpredictability that naturally comes with young children.

Prey Drive

Blue has demonstrated significant prey drive.

Because of this, she is not suitable for homes with:

  • Livestock

  • Chickens

  • Rabbits

  • Small prey animals

A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred.

Who Blue Is Not For

Blue is not a good fit for:

  • Homes with children

  • Homes planning for children in the near future

  • Homes with frequent young child visitors

  • Dog parks

  • Dog daycare

  • Highly social dog lifestyles

  • Homes with livestock or small prey animals

Who Blue May Be Perfect For

Blue may be an excellent fit for:

  • Adult-only households

  • Singles or couples

  • Retired individuals

  • People who enjoy training

  • Homes that value routine and predictability

  • Owners comfortable advocating for their dog's space

  • Families looking to skip the puppy stage

  • People seeking a companion rather than a social butterfly

Why We Believe Blue Deserves the Right Home

Over the time we have spent evaluating Blue, one thing has become very clear:

Blue is not difficult because she lacks good qualities.

She is difficult because her strengths and weaknesses require a specific environment.

In the right home, Blue is sweet, affectionate, playful, highly trained, intelligent, and deeply rewarding to live with.

We are committed to finding that home.
