A Lot of Dog in a Little Package

At an expected 12–15 pounds, Peachy is going to be a genuinely little dog. His personality, however, doesn't feel small. He's confident, social, playful, and game for whatever is happening around him. He frequently seeks out other dogs for play and doesn't particularly care whether his friend happens to be anywhere near his size. I think he'd make a fantastic play companion for another friendly dog, including a much larger one, although he certainly doesn't require another dog in his future home.

He's also incredibly fun to train. Peachy catches on quickly and is fantastic at offering behaviors, which makes capturing and shaping new skills especially easy. He genuinely enjoys figuring out what you want and working with you. Someone who simply wants a wonderful everyday companion can absolutely enjoy him that way, but there's plenty here for someone interested in tricks, training classes, hiking, adventures, recreational dog sports, or potentially more formal work.

His energy is nicely moderate and adaptable. Peachy can play, wrestle with another dog, train, go somewhere with you, and participate in whatever the day has planned, but he doesn't need the entire day to revolve around keeping him entertained. When nothing is happening, he's perfectly capable of finding something to do on his own or settling down for a nap.

Easy to Live With

Peachy wants to be part of your life without needing to be the center of it. He'll happily follow you around the house, ride along in the car, curl up beside you while you work, or climb into your lap for a cuddle. At the same time, if you're busy and don't need a puppy involved in what you're doing, he can go entertain himself or find somewhere comfortable to relax.

We've seen a lot of maturity in him during the extra time we've had together. He's crate trained, rides beautifully in the car, and no longer gets upset when a gate separates him from his people. He still chooses to be close whenever he can, but he's perfectly capable of being independent when he needs to be. That's a really nice distinction in a dog whose natural relationship style is so people-oriented.

He's also become a fantastic bedtime companion. Peachy sleeps in bed and sleeps through the night, usually curled up beside you rather than on top of you. When morning comes and he needs to go outside, he's developed a pretty effective system for letting you know: he comes over and starts licking your face until you wake up. Once he's let outside, he heads out to potty.

Exceptionally Good With Kids

One of Peachy's best qualities has become increasingly apparent as we've had more time with him: he is remarkably forgiving, particularly with children.

He's been picked up, carried around, cuddled, hugged, and handled by numerous kids. Sometimes those interactions have been a little less graceful than we might ideally prefer, because that's real life with children and puppies. Peachy consistently takes it in stride. He's patient, tolerant, affectionate, and remarkably easygoing about being handled.

Children should absolutely still be taught how to interact appropriately and respectfully with a dog, but temperament matters. Peachy has shown us over and over again that he has a tremendous amount of forgiveness when a child makes a mistake. For a family looking for a small Goldendoodle who can comfortably be part of normal family life, I consider that one of his biggest strengths.

Therapy & Service Dog Potential

The more time we've spent with Peachy, the more interesting he has become as a potential therapy or small service dog prospect. His original temperament evaluation showed excellent human focus and motivation, good confidence and recovery, low environmental sensitivity, affection, and a genuine desire to work with people. Living with him longer has given us the opportunity to see how those traits translate into everyday life.

For therapy work, I particularly like his combination of outgoing affection, forgiveness, and adaptability. Peachy enjoys people and physical contact, has been remarkably tolerant of handling, and is exceptionally patient with children. Just as importantly, he doesn't need to be interacting every second. He can engage when invited and settle when he isn't needed.

There are also qualities that make him worth considering for certain types of service work. He's extremely trainable, highly people-focused, comfortable in his crate, rides beautifully in the car, and can settle independently without losing his desire to work with his person. His expected 12–15 pound adult size naturally limits the physical tasks he could perform, but for a handler whose disability-related tasks are appropriate for a small dog, Peachy has a lot of promising qualities.

No puppy can be guaranteed to ultimately succeed as a working service or therapy dog. Continued training, socialization, health, maturity, and the specific job all matter. But if someone is specifically looking for a very small dog with genuine workability rather than simply a companion temperament, Peachy is absolutely a puppy we'd be willing to consider.

The Advantage of More Time With Us

There are some very practical advantages to bringing Peachy home at this stage. He's still very much a puppy with plenty of bonding, learning, and growing left to do, but he's had additional time to develop skills that families normally have to work through during those earliest weeks at home.

He's crate trained, sleeping through the night, riding well in the car, settling independently, and becoming physically more mature. That additional maturity can also make potty training easier. He'll still need to learn the schedule, doors, potty area, and expectations of his new home, but he's past some of the limitations that come with bringing home a very young baby puppy.

He's also nearly finished with his puppy vaccine series, with just one puppy vaccine remaining. Once that final vaccine is complete and he's through the appropriate protection window, he'll be ready for a much bigger world of outings, classes, adventures, and everyday experiences.

Most importantly, those additional weeks have allowed us to really know him. We aren't describing Peachy based solely on what we saw during an early temperament test. We've lived with him. We've watched him interact with children, adults, familiar dogs and new dogs. We've traveled with him, trained him, cuddled him, crated him, slept with him, and watched what he does when nobody is entertaining him.

We have a very good idea who Peachy Boy is.

Who Is Peachy Boy For?

I think Peachy could fit beautifully into a surprisingly wide variety of homes. He could be a wonderful companion for someone retired, a family dog in a home with children, a second dog for someone with a playful canine companion, an office buddy, a travel companion, a tiny training and adventure partner, or potentially a therapy or small service dog prospect.

At an expected 12–15 pounds, he's an incredibly convenient size for apartment or condo living, traveling, riding along in the car, going to the office, or simply taking with you more places. But I wouldn't choose him simply because someone wants a tiny lap dog. There is a lot of personality and capability packed into his little body.

What matters more than the activity level of his future household is whether his family wants their dog to be part of their life. Peachy can go places, do things, learn, play, cuddle, or simply hang out and do absolutely nothing with you. He's adaptable enough to fit into the day that's happening rather than demanding that every day be designed around him.

For someone looking for a petite Goldendoodle who is confident, affectionate, playful, highly trainable, great with kids, social with other dogs, and extraordinarily easy to live with, Justice “Peachy Boy” is a pretty special little puppy.
